Museo del Ciclismo "Alto Livenza" – Portobuffolé, Italy +++++

Fantastic atmosphere in the museum dedicated to the memory of Duilio Chiaradia – a pioneer of television sports broadcasting and cameraman for RAI from 1950 to 1981 – and Giovanni Micheletto, winner of the 1912 Giro d'Italia (fourth edition) riding for the legendary Atala team (Ganna, Galetti, Pavesi, Micheletto). The museum is housed in the 14th century "Casa Gaia Da Camino". Its facilities include a technical library, database, newspaper and periodical archive, study room, film and photo archive and a collection of postcards and sports memorabilia.

The museum has several unique historical machines with very interesting histories. The collection of jerseys of famous racers would deserve an exhibition in itself. We were lucky and one of the museum's enthusiastic assistants, Valter de Martin, was there to visit us, so our experience was enhanced to the maximum. Thank you!

Portobuffolé region

Portobuffolé is located in the province of Treviso in the Veneto region of Italy. This historic walled town lies approximately 50 kilometers northeast of Venice and is known for its cobblestone streets, arcades and rich history associated with the Republic of Venice.

The entire area is best known to us cycling fanatics as the birthplace of Ottavio Bottecchio, the Italian winner of the 1924 and 1925 Tour de France.

La Storia 1894 – 1927

Ottavio Bottecchia was born 8/1/1894, in San Martino di Colle Umberto, an authentic phenomenon who performed many heroic feats in a few years and left an indelible mark on the world of cycling: he was actually the first Italian to win the Tour de France in 1924 in the yellow jersey from first to the last stage and won the Tour again the following year in 1925.

But we can also tell about him about the heroic deeds that earned him the Bronze Medal for military bravery, about his repeated escapes from Austrian captivity and about his hard work as a cartwright and bricklayer to support his large family. A man of hard work, sacrifice and accepting fate with humility without complaint and without regret.
