Helas lopro with aero carbon fiber, 26"/28", Greece, after 1990
Nikos Koubenakis and Antonis Vareltzakis - two partners in Greece in the 90s. Both came from the island of Crete (Greece), from the city of Heraklion. They covered the iron frame tubes (531 Reynolds) with carbon fibers. For its time, it was very innovative and the frame modified in this way was very progressive for its time and is definitely completely unique. Their teams used them for pursuit races on the track. The Helas steel frame built from English Reynolds 531 tubes was used as a basis. Epoxy aero fillers were used for aviation purposes and this technology was also used for bicycle frames. The company Delta Fabrications, based on the island of Crete in Greece, then worked on these foundations and experimented with bicycle frames.
